8th Day Christmas Cake Ideas: Festive Recipes & Decorating Tips

The holiday inspiration continues with our newest cake series, The 12 Cakes of Christmas. We’re celebrating twelve days of festive cake designs created to inspire your holiday baking and decoration. Twelve talented cake artists were invited to design innovative and elegant cakes suitable for Christmas parties and winter weddings. Each baker shares the creative vision behind their design. It’s 12 bakers baking — it’s The 12 Cakes of Christmas.

The eighth cake in our series comes from Sherri Meyers and her team at The Pastry Studio in Daytona Beach, Florida. You may remember Sherri from earlier features on our site, including the pink ruffled cake or the retro candy buttons cake, and last year’s Nutcracker Cake. This year she returns with a golden treasure that gleams with understated glamour. Sleek and sophisticated, this design is utterly fabulous — it’s The 8th Cake of Christmas!

Our 12 Cakes of Christmas series isn’t a literal take on the twelve gifts of Christmas — there are no pipers piping or maids a-milking here. Instead, today’s cake nods to the classic carol with a pear motif. Sherri captures the holiday’s golden glamour with a shimmering design that’s dazzling and refined.

Pop the Prosecco — this cake makes us sparkle with delight. Nestled among swirls of metallic, grommet-inspired discs, hand-painted pears shine in gold. The overall effect is polished and celebratory, perfectly suited for a chic holiday table or an elegant winter wedding.

Sherri Meyers of The Pastry Studio describes her technique:

“This is our Golden Pear Cake, inspired by a chic formal affair with a Partridge in a Pear Tree theme. We love the simple elegance of this design. The cake is gilded with edible metallic gold and silver paint. The grommet dots are all hand-cut and painted in a mix of metallic shades. The pears begin with a soft green base and are finished with gold paint.”

The shimmering pears are captivating up close — delicate gradients of green deepening into burnished gold. Each pear is carefully modeled and painted to catch the light without overwhelming the clean lines of the cake.

The metallic grommet discs play like champagne bubbles or sequins, depending on how you look at them. Their subtle textures and layered metallics create depth while maintaining a refined, modern aesthetic. The combination of soft green, gold and polished silver produces a festive yet elegant palette.
