These are the Mistakes to Avoid at Animal Kingdom. Helpful tips to make your day at Animal Kingdom as enjoyable as possible.

Mistake 1: Arriving Late to the Park
Animal Kingdom typically closes earlier than the other parks, so arriving late can cost you meaningful time. To maximize your visit, plan to arrive at park opening or shortly before.
Florida heat grows intense in the afternoon, and many animals retreat from view. If seeing active wildlife is a priority, make sure to be at the park early.
We recommend starting with Kilimanjaro Safaris. The animals are most active in the morning, giving you the best chance to see them on your ride.
Mistake 2: Riding the Safari in the Afternoon
Because of the warm weather, an afternoon safari often means fewer visible animals. While lines may be shorter then, the experience is less rewarding.
For better sightings, ride Kilimanjaro Safaris first thing in the morning or after a rain when temperatures are cooler. Evenings can be good, though we personally prefer spending the night hours in Pandora.

Mistake 3: Buying Genie+
Genie+ can save time across Walt Disney World, but Animal Kingdom has fewer attractions with consistently long lines, so it’s not always necessary here.
Because only a handful of rides generate lengthy waits, many visitors complete the park without Genie+. If you want to prioritize saving time on the most popular attraction, consider purchasing an individual Lightning Lane for Avatar Flight of Passage, which typically has the longest waits.
If you do use Genie+ at Animal Kingdom, understand which experiences are worth booking and plan accordingly to get the most value.
Mistake 4: Leaving Before Seeing Pandora at Night
Pandora is one of Animal Kingdom’s most magical lands, and its atmosphere transforms after dark. Avatar Flight of Passage draws crowds in the morning, but visiting Pandora at night lets you enjoy the bioluminescent scenery without the peak daytime traffic.
Nighttime often brings lower wait times for Flight of Passage right before park closing, so it can be a great time to ride. While there, also take a trip on Na’vi River Journey to experience Pandora’s nocturnal ambiance.

Mistake 5: Skipping the Conservation Station
When trying to fit everything into one day, the Conservation Station is an easy stop to skip — but it’s worth a visit. This area offers much more than simple animal viewing.
You’ll find interactive exhibits and The Animation Experience, where you can learn to draw a Disney character with guidance from a Disney animator. These activities are included with park admission and offer a quieter, educational break from rides.
Note that the last train to Conservation Station departs around mid-afternoon, so plan your visit accordingly. It’s a great place to visit before dinner if you intend to return to Pandora at night.
Mistake 6: Walking Too Much
Animal Kingdom spans roughly 580 acres, making it the largest Disney park. Without a plan, you can end up doing a lot of unnecessary walking across the park.
When mapping your day, group nearby attractions together and consider starting in the back of the park to reduce repeated long treks. A well-ordered plan can save energy and keep your group comfortable throughout the day.
Mistake 7: Skipping the Shows
Animal Kingdom’s live entertainment is a highlight and far from typical theme-park fare. Expect Broadway-quality productions with impressive costumes, music, and performances.
Shows such as Festival of the Lion King and Finding Nemo: The Big Blue… and Beyond are standouts and worth scheduling into your day. They provide memorable experiences and a relaxing break from walking and lines.

Mistake 8: Missing Out on Character Meet and Greets
While Magic Kingdom is famous for character interactions, Animal Kingdom hosts unique and popular meet-and-greets you won’t find elsewhere. Moana, for example, is a sought-after character who meets guests exclusively here.
Animal Kingdom also offers the rare opportunity to meet Mickey and Minnie together, which is a favorite for many visitors. If character encounters matter to you, factor them into your itinerary.
Mistake 9: Only Planning Half a Day
Many visitors treat Animal Kingdom as a half-day park, but there’s enough to fill a full day — or more — if you include shows, interactive exhibits, and the immersive lands like Pandora.
Even with fewer rides than some other parks, Animal Kingdom’s variety of experiences makes it worthwhile to schedule a full day so you can explore at a relaxed pace rather than rushing from attraction to attraction.
