Homemade Boursin-Style Garlic & Herb Cheese Recipe

Try my Homemade Boursin Cheese — a classic French cheese spread studded with fines herbes and minced garlic. It’s easy to make, far less expensive than store-bought, and delicious on a fresh baguette.

I scheduled this recipe to publish while I was travelling in France, which felt fitting — Boursin is a very French cheese spread and makes a perfect travel-inspired post. French cheeses are diverse and wonderful; every region has its own specialties and many are simple, everyday delights.

In some places, imported Boursin can be pricey, so I started experimenting with a homemade version. The ingredient list is short, the method is straightforward, and the result is a creamy, herb-flecked spread that captures the familiar flavors of Boursin. My version is slightly softer in texture than the commercial product, but the taste is very close.

Homemade Boursin is a great place to start if you want to make French-style cheese spreads at home — it’s quick, economical and versatile. Serve it on warm baguette slices, with smoked salmon, or as part of a cheese board.
