Directions

  1. Trim and slice the flank steak into ¼-inch strips.
  2. In a bowl, toss the steak with garlic powder and the ground black pepper; set aside to absorb flavors.
  3. Prepare the vegetables: cut the broccoli into florets, slice the carrots, mushrooms and chop the onion; set aside.
  4. In a small bowl, dissolve the beef bouillon in hot water. Stir in the cornstarch until fully dissolved to make a slurry.
  5. Heat the vegetable oil in a wok or large skillet over medium heat.
  6. Add the seasoned steak in a single layer. Cover and cook 6–8 minutes, stirring once or twice, until the beef is browned.
  7. Pour in the bouillon-cornstarch mixture and stir to combine, letting the sauce begin to thicken.
  8. Add the broccoli, carrots, mushrooms and onions along with the soy sauce, sugar and salt. Stir, cover and cook another 3–4 minutes until the vegetables are tender but still crisp.
  9. Adjust seasoning to taste and serve hot over rice or alongside noodles.
