I found an intriguing mix on the Prepared Pantry site called fully loaded potato bread. The mix includes sour cream, chives and bacon bits, which immediately made me want to try it.

When I opened the pouch, the added ingredients were obvious. The aroma of spices and dried vegetables was noticeable right away.
I added the mix contents to my bread pan and selected the basic cycle with a medium crust. The mix requires you to supply butter and water, so I added those as directed.
The package instructs using water at about 80°F. My Zojirushi bread machine has a preheat phase built into the bread cycle, so I used tap water and didn’t worry about exact temperature. If your machine lacks a preheat step, follow the package temperature guidance for best results.

Even when using a mix, I like to check the dough a few minutes into kneading to confirm it forms a good ball. This dough pulled together nicely and required no adjustments.
So pretty!
The kitchen smelled fantastic as the loaf baked.

The finished loaf had an attractive crust and a pleasant texture.
As for flavor, the result was a hit at home. My partner loved it. I enjoyed the bread as well, though I found it slightly salty for my taste. Overall it’s a very good mix with a clear flavor profile from the included sour cream, chives and bacon bits; the salt level is the only minor drawback for me.
My Favorite Bread Mixes
Below are two Prepared Pantry mixes I return to regularly. I buy these several times a year because I like their dependable flavor and texture.
Prepared Pantry New York Dill Rye Mix

This mix has a noticeable dill and onion aroma—think sour cream-and-onion chips in bread form. It bakes up with a wonderful scent and flavor.
