Creating this “Fresh Baked Pies” sign is an easy, charming addition to any kitchen. Follow this step-by-step tutorial to make the sign using your Cricut.
Fresh Baked Pies Sign Using a Cricut
Are you team apple pie or team pumpkin pie? Personally, I love sweet potato pie first, then apple pie. No matter your favorite, this sign is a fun way to celebrate homemade pies and add cozy farmhouse charm to your kitchen.
This project is simple, inexpensive, and perfect for gifting. With a few basic supplies and a Cricut or similar cutting machine, you can make a professional-looking sign in a short time.
What You Need
Gather these supplies before you begin:
- Cricut or another cutting machine
- Cricut blue light or green standard grip mat
- Oracle 651 or other permanent vinyl
- Transfer tape
- High-temp hot glue gun with strong glue sticks (or E6000 for extra strength)
- White matte paint and paintbrush
- Dollar Tree frame (glass will be used)
- Cricut weeding tool
- Cricut scraper tool or an old credit card
- Two packs of paint sticks
- Fresh Baked Pies Sign SVG (download and import into your design program)

How to Make the Fresh Baked Pies Sign
Step 1: Cut the paint sticks to size based on the frame you’ll use. You’ll need two longer pieces and two shorter pieces for the front of the frame, and repeat for the back. Use the photos as a guide for the correct lengths.
Step 2: Dry brush the exposed side of the paint sticks with white matte paint. Dry brushing preserves some of the raw wood look for a rustic farmhouse finish. Avoid painting the side with ruler markings.

Step 3: Assemble the front of the frame. Lay the pieces out and apply high-temp hot glue (or E6000) to join the short pieces to the long pieces at the corners. Use a strong adhesive designed for wood to ensure durability.

Step 4: Remove the glass from the inexpensive frame and discard the plastic frame. Place the glass on the wood frame and align its edges centered on each side. Mark the corners on the wood with a pen to guide gluing.
Step 5: Apply glue along the innermost edge of the wood frame using the marks as a guide. Press the glass into place and hold until the glue sets. Work quickly for the best bond.
Step 6: Create the backing by gluing the remaining paint sticks around the back edges of the glass. Add adhesive to the innermost edge of the glass area and attach each backing stick one at a time to enclose the glass.

Step 7: Let the glue fully dry. Then open your Cricut design program and upload the SVG file. Resize the design to fit the glass area of your sign.

Step 8: Set your machine to the vinyl setting and load Oracle 651 (permanent vinyl) onto the blue light grip mat. Start the cut.
Step 9: After cutting, weed the excess vinyl away using the weeding tool. Remove the negative vinyl around letters and the small enclosed areas (for example, inside a, e, o).

Step 10: Cut a piece of transfer tape the size of your cut vinyl. Apply the transfer tape over the vinyl and burnish it firmly with the scraper tool to ensure the vinyl lifts cleanly from its backing.
Step 11: Flip the design over and gently peel the vinyl backing away from the transfer tape so the vinyl stays on the transfer paper.
Step 12: Find the center of the glass area and place the transfer sheet with vinyl onto the glass. Lightly position it until you are happy with the placement, then smooth and press firmly with the scraper tool.

Step 13: Carefully remove the transfer tape by peeling it back slowly from a corner; the vinyl should remain adhered to the glass.
Step 14: Optional — add wire, twine, or a hanging device to the back so the sign can be displayed on a wall or door.

This sign is quick to make and makes a lovely decorative piece or gift. Its farmhouse style and simple construction mean you can create several variations for different seasons or as personalized presents.
Signs like this are thoughtful, handmade gifts that are sure to bring a smile.
